The PLACE test Program for Licensing Assessments for Colorado Educatorsseries is a comprehensive and challenging battery of assessments for men and women who want to teach or work in schools in the state of Colorado. The tests are based on Colorado licensing standards and state curricula.
All of the exams in the series are criterion-referenced, meaning that scores are compared to an objective standard rather than to the performance of other test takers. There are three basic types of PLACE test: the basic skills test, the content-area assessments, and the administrator assessments.
The basic skills assessment has three sections, each considered an independent subtest: reading, mathematics, and writing. This test is often required of students before entering a teacher preparation program. The content-area assessments measure knowledge in specific subject areas, such as art and science. There are also examinations for special education and specific age groups, like elementary or middle school students. The administrator exams are designed for those who wish to ascend to management positions within a school.
Each PLACE test is administered by computer in a special testing center. Scores are made available approximately one month after the exam date.
